Privacy Policy

This is the plain version. I am one person running a small business, not a company with a data department. I collect very little, I do not sell anything about you, and I would rather tell you exactly what happens than hide it in ten pages of legal language.
Who I am
The Unreleased Artist is run by me, Daniel J. Ryder, based in California, United States. If you want to reach me about anything on this page, write to connect@theunreleasedartist.com.
What I collect, and why
| What | When | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Your email address | You join the list | To send you the weekly email. Nothing else. |
| Name, email, and what you write in the form | You book a discovery call | So I arrive at the call knowing your context. |
| Pages you visit, roughly where you are, what device you used | Any visit | Standard server logs, and advertising measurement if you arrived from an ad. |
| Session notes and anything you share in our work | You become a 1:1 client | To do the work properly. This is the most private thing I hold and I treat it that way. |
I do not ask for anything I do not need, and I do not collect payment details on this website.
The other companies involved
Running a site like this means some things happen through other companies. Each one gets only what it needs to do its job. They all have their own privacy policies, and I have linked them so you can read them yourself.
- Hostinger hosts this website and runs the email list. Your email address is stored with them. Their policy.
- Calendly handles the booking form and the calendar. What you type into that form goes to them and to me. Their policy.
- Zoom is where the calls happen. Their policy.
- Meta. If I am running ads, a Meta Pixel on this site tells Meta which pages you visited so I can measure whether the ad worked and show ads to people like you. Meta may combine that with what it already knows about you and may share it onward with its own partners. Their policy. You can opt out of this kind of ad targeting in your Meta ad settings.
- Google Fonts serves the typefaces. Loading them sends your IP address to Google. Their policy.
- Unsplash serves the photographs behind the homepage header, which means your IP address reaches them when the page loads. Their policy.
- Patreon runs the Inner Circle. If you join, your relationship there is with Patreon and with me, under their policy.
Cookies and tracking
I do not set cookies to follow you around. The companies above may. The Meta Pixel in particular uses tracking technology to record what you do on this site, and that data is used to measure how well an ad performed and to target ads at you elsewhere on the internet. If that is not something you want, the ad settings link above turns it off, and most browsers let you block third party cookies entirely.
What I will never do
I will not sell your email address. I will not rent it, trade it, or hand your list to anyone. I will not use anything you tell me on a discovery call or in a session as marketing material. If I ever want to share something from our work, I will ask you first, and no is a complete answer.
How long I keep things
Your email stays on the list until you unsubscribe, which you can do from the bottom of any email I send. Discovery call notes are deleted within a year if we do not end up working together. Client records are kept while we work together and for a reasonable period afterward in case you come back. Ask me to delete any of it and I will.
Your rights
Wherever you live, you can ask me what I hold about you, ask me to correct it, or ask me to delete it. Write to connect@theunreleasedartist.com and I will answer you personally.
If you are in California, you have the right to know what personal information is collected and how it is used and shared, the right to delete it, the right to correct it, and the right to opt out of its sale or sharing. I do not sell personal information. Using advertising tools like the Meta Pixel can count as sharing for cross-context behavioural advertising under California law, so if you would rather I did not, email me or turn it off in your Meta ad settings. I will not treat you differently for asking.
If you are in the UK or EU, you also have the right to object to processing, the right to restrict it, and the right to receive your data in a portable format.
Children
This site is for adults. I do not knowingly collect anything from anyone under 16. If you think a child has sent me something, tell me and I will delete it.
Security
The site runs over an encrypted connection and I keep the number of places your information lives as small as I reasonably can. No website is perfectly secure and I am not going to pretend otherwise. If something ever goes wrong, I will tell you rather than quietly hope you do not notice.
Changes
If I change how any of this works, I will change this page and update the date at the top.
Questions about any of this go to connect@theunreleasedartist.com and reach me directly.
